Finance Manager Jobs

In the Finance department, the Finance Manager is responsible for planning, budgeting and advising on company finances. They will directly manage others within the team and often report directly into the Finance Director.

Finance Manager job description and responsibilities

The role of a Finance Manager can vary considerably from one business to the next, often depending on the size and scale of the business itself. Typically a Finance Manager will be responsible for the following:

  • Budget management and monitoring
  • Collecting and interpreting financial data
  • Overseeing management accountants, financial analysts and financial accountants
  • Collating reports on budgets, expenses, accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Business partnering through advising stakeholders across the business on financial issues
  • Predicting future trends in the finance market
  • Analysing current market trends and competitor activity

Finance Manager job qualifications, experience and skills

A Finance Manager is often asked for an accounting qualification, such as CIMA, ACA or ACCA. However it’s also not uncommon for Finance Managers to be Qualified by Experience (QBE) as they have worked within the finance sector for several years. Employers may also request an accounting or business related degree to accompany any qualification and/or experience.

In addition to the above the Finance Manager should have an array of soft skills, largely due to the leadership aspect of their role. These may include:

  • Strong business acumen and commercial awareness
  • An analytical mind with an eye for detail
  • Ability to manage others and adjust communication style to suit a range of stakeholders
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to influence and negotiate
